Ingawanis Geocache Outing

Camp Ingawanis logo

There have been some unavoidable delays in getting camp ready for the event. All camping and event activities have been moved to the north part of camp. Referring to the camp map, RVs will now be parked in the grass parking area near the stable. Tent campers and those with cabin reservations will be in the areas along the north edge of camp and around the swimming pool. The shower house at the swimming pool will be open.

Event activities will be held at the "picnic shelter" near the stable.

These changes will not have a significant effect on the event, except that it is farther to hike from the event shelter to some of the caches.

New coords are: N42 41.291 W092 25.108

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the pancake breakfast and the lunch concessions will not be available during the event.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

Online registrations are now being accepted. See below for more info.

Who

The Winnebago Council covers approximately 17 counties in North Eastern Iowa.
The Iowa Geocachers Organization represents geocaching in all of Iowa.

Please email  events @ IowaGeocachers . org for more information about this event.

What

Geocaching is commonly referred to as a "high tech treasure hunt".   People hide a small container of items in the woods, then post the GPS coordinates on a web site.  Other people get the coordinates from the web site and try to find the container.  Below are a couple of links to web pages that explain the game.
In addition to the geocaches, most camp facilities will be open during the event.   These activities are included in the event price.
  • Rifle and BB Range
  • Archery Range
  • More than 30 geocaches
  • Night time geocaches
  • GPS Games
  • Hay rack rides
  • Mud Gulch obstacle course
  • Miles of Mt Bike trails (map)
  • Trading Post
These activities will be available for a small additional cost, see below for prices.
  • Horse back trail ride
  • Horse back arena rides
  • Geocache Competitions

When

May 27-28 2006.   The event is being held over the Memorial Day weekend for a couple of reasons.   1) We wanted to allow people two full days to experience all that the camp has to offer, and 2) this was the only time we were able to reserve the whole camp for a "public" event.   Besides, where else can you go camping on a holiday weekend, have tons of activities available and not have to fight the crowds.

The camp will be open on Friday afternoon for folks to settle in.   There will be some informal activities on Friday evening.   Event activities begin Saturday morning and run through Sunday evening.   Campers pack up and leave on Monday morning.

Where

Located between south east of Waverly, the council's Camp Ingawanis covers 500 acres of rolling, wooded terrain.   The camp is bordered on one side by the Cedar River.   Waverly is in the upper left corner of this map.   Waterloo is just off the bottom right and Cedar Falls is just off the bottom left.
