IGO Newsletter #10
Sorry for the delay on this issue of the newsletter, it has been a very busy holiday season so far. So here is the 10th issue of the newsletter.
A reminder that the Board Member elections will start soon. Vote early and often (okay, just early).
In the Events section, you will see an event celebrating DRTMN’s 2000th find. Check it out and attend if you want to meet this Iowa Geocaching Legend.
Lastly, I am all out of Cacher Profiles and Cache Highlights. If these are sections you enjoy, please submit one of your own or the newsletter may just go the way of the doo-doo bird. Send event reviews, profiles, highlights and anything else you might want other cachers to know to "newsletter at iowageocachers.org".

Cacher Profile
GC.Com Username: SS MINI
Number of Finds/Hides: 341 / 10
Occupation? TBH and I are computer programmer and safety professional in Cyclone Country. Also, we are the parents of Cat91 and Egghead93.
How you got your username? TBH and I bought a Red MINI Cooper in 2004
and decided that we wanted vanity plates that were a play on the SS MINNOW from
Gilligan’s
How long have you been caching? We found our first cache on December 31, 2005 and that alone is a TRUE geocaching moment!
How did you get started? Our caching adventures began for us when I asked for a GPSr for Christmas in 2005. We bid on a Garmin GPS III Plus on ebay. As I waited for the auction to end, I rediscover the geocaching.com website. After studying the caches near my house and got the GPSr, I manually entered in the data for 3 Floating Bubbles (GCMAH5). So, New Years Eve day we went looking. Three times, I came home before I finally realized I had entered the coordinates wrong!!! (Yes, fishpounder (and Team Tayjam) has since left a four by eight sheet of plywood painted in geocaching color with instructions to help me find DNF caches) We found the cache and the addiction began. TBH and the girls are very understanding most of the time of my NEED to cache.
Favorite cache/why? This is always a moving target, but still the Criss Cross Cache (GC3E25) is favorite, since that was the first cache we did with another cacher. I did the calculations and invited TT to come caching. He agreed! When he arrived with fishpounder in tow, the girls and I knew that this cache was going to be an adventure. fishpounder said that he came along to laugh… My calculations were close and with some assistance we found the site. The rest of the story is one a safety professional should not recount! ?
My favorite multicache is Norskie02's Swishing Hole (GCNRD3). The first stage really opened my eyes to a new way of hiding a cache. Cat91 and TBH did not want to retrieve this stage!
Least Favorite/why? None, the amazing thing to me is all the ways caches are hidden. There are caches for everyone!
Current caching goals? Keep caching with TBH, Cat91 and Egghead93! And meeting and caching with other cacher!

Just before Thanksgiving, I placed a new puzzle cache in the Des Moines area. There are ten wizards and witches you must find before trying to defeat Voldemort. Each wizard or witch contains a clue to help you on your way. But be warned, you must find all ten before trying to defeat Voldemort or you risk falling prey to his evil plan.
All of the containers are regular sized caches and have been placed along both sides of the Des Moines River in the Johnston area. This is a great hike or you can bring your bike as one side has a very nice paved bike path. The other side is more adventuresome on a bike, but if you do any kind of mountain biking, it will be little challenge.
There are three or four other caches along the trails on both sides of the river, so you can pick up fifteen caches on a nice hike or ride. Good luck and happy hunting.
